Feb 18 - Welcome To Africa

So after 21 hours of total travel time including a 3 hour layover in Amsterdam we have arrived in Cape Town.  We arrived at 11:30 pm and were greeted by Lungi’s family. We will be staying at Lungi’s aunt Nikki’s house for the next 2 weeks which is just outside Cape Town in an area called Constantia; an area filled with lush forests, mountains, and wine vineyards. Before heading to Nikki’s we stopped at Lungi’s Grandmother’s house to receive her welcome and blessing – apparently it is a Xhosa (Lungi's family’s tribe) custom for new arrivals to be blessed by the matriarch of the family. We’re now back at Nikki’s which is a ridiculously gorgeous place with glass floors, panoramic windows and beautiful views…who said Africa was going to be tough?

Anyway, not much else to say as we’ve only been here for a few hours but it seems like there are a lot of things scheduled for us already: various community bbq’s, attending church on Sunday, golfing next week, climbing Table Mountain, visiting wineries, traditional African wedding ceremony…and oh yeah…swimming with GREAT WHITE SHARKS!!!
Stay tuned...

  1. That is an INCREDIBLE house! Rest assured, though - it is not representative of what you will be seeing!
