Feb 28 - Oceans & Moutains

There is one thing that you can’t ignore while visiting Cape Town; it’s incredible natural beauty. The beaches, mountains and the coastal roads in this city are unbelievable. 2 lane roads wind around the coast in and out of various little towns, mostly located in a bay with bars/restaurants lining the street and massive houses overlooking the water. We have driven many of these roads, visited several beaches and even climbed a few mountains. Each one deserves its own post but we’ll just highlight a few which stand out above all others.

Lions Head Mountain: almost 700m above sea level with incredible views of the city, Table Mountain and the 12 Apostles (the 12 Apostles are a group of peaks on the back side of Table Mountain). The climb took about 2 hours and was totally worth it - check out the views:

Table Mountain:  1086m high and believed by many to be one of the oldest mountains on earth. The actual mountain is part of a national park covering there-quarters of the peninsula and provides phenomenal views as far as Cape Point. We spent half a day wondering around at the top of the mountain and only covered a fraction of it.

Cape Point: This is the southern-most point of the African Continent; it is where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. It’s a pretty incredible feeling to be at the point, looking North and thinking that this is the beginning of the Continent. The trip from Cape Town to Cape Point is a journey in its own, passing through beautiful coastal mountains and beaches and sighting various different animals including baboons, camels, seals, ostriches, donkeys and even penguins. WTF are penguins doing in Africa?!?!?

The natural beauty of South Africa is extraordinary; the photos don’t even come close to capturing it. Out of the many places which we have travelled, Cape Town is by far the most beautiful…so far.
