Mar 5 - Vic Falls

We’ve just arrived in Zambia and it is clear that vacation is over and travelling begins. This is the real Africa. It is the middle of the rainy season here so when we arrived, it was in a tropical downpour. Thankfully it only lasted about 20 minutes. We got settled into our new home for the next few days which is definitely a big adjustment from where we came from. The room is tiny and I think there are bugs hiding and waiting to come out. I decided to layer the floor in front of the doors with bug spray and I have got the mosquito net all set up – we should be safe for now!

We then went directly to see the Victoria Falls. The mist was so intense that we walked out of the national park drenched from head to toe. Jacob hired a cab driver to bring us around for the day so he was waiting for us when we got out and he brought us to a place that offers helicopter and microlight flights over the falls. A Microlight is basically a motorcycle with wings…kinda scary because it’s all open and the only thing keeping you in is a tiny seat belt and balance. Seeing the falls from the ground is incredible, but seeing them from the air is spectacular. Not only did we get an incredible view of the massive falls, we also got to see hippos and crocodiles swimming in the Zambezi River. I even got to steer the microlight, but not Jacob – he was too scared to let go of the handle bars

Wow! I'm jealous. I love the photos and stories. And, I think I'll send your blog address to my family and distant friends so they can also join in on the excitement.
