June 3 – Yes…just a few more days in India

We visited a very small town in the middle of the desert called Khajuraho which is famous for the Kama sutra temples. When we arrived it was 480C, and by 10 am the temperature was too hot to go wander around the town.  We kind of got stranded in this town for 3 days because there was no train leaving back to Delhi, so we took advantage to work on our personal “to do list” and catch a few yoga classes - Jacob is not flexible at all. The Kama sutra temples were beautiful; they are intricately carved from stone and covered with detailed sculptures, mostly involving women and sex.

When we first arrived in India Jacob had 2 suits custom made and I had a brides maid dress made as well. When we returned to the tailor in Delhi to pick them up, Jacob’s suits looked good but having a dress mad was a mistake. We literally spent hours having them alter the dress and arguing over the price but eventually we walked out at half the amount we originally agreed to pay.
During our last day, Jacob visited a few sights and wandered through Old Delhi while I just hung out in the hotel room. I’ve noticed that my body odour has actually started to smell like curry – I’m not joking, I think it’s coming out of my pores. Jacob’s beard smells like it too so I think he’s decided to shave it once we leave.

India has been difficult for me and I have gone through so many emotions while we have been here, mostly negative ones. But I realize how lucky I am to be able to visit this country and see how people live their lives, to smell all the different scents and witness both the good and the bad. I think India has made me stronger and more assertive.  And it has definitely made me realize just how much I love my life.

While looking back at our blog posts from Asia, I noticed our posts seem to be less adventurous than those in Africa. Our goal going back into SE Asia will be to add some excitement to our daily routines and spice up our travels. Who knows, maybe we’ll live with monkeys in a tree for a few days while smoking opium or maybe some poisonous snake hunting in Borneo! Okay just kidding mom.

  2. Hi Lungi and Jacob, yes I noticed from your reports that India seems to have been far more stressful for you than Africa. I felt the same when we visited India and Sri Lanka in 2007. I presume it is too late now but you should have also gone down South to Cochin and the Backwaters at Alleppey. You would have enjoyed ancient Jew Town and its Pardesy Synagogue and of course a night in a private house boat sailed by a skipper through an enormous labyrinth of water ways. If you are travelling to Sri Lanka, which seems to be on your agenda, you will find that country with its beautiful landscapes and tea estates much more pleasing. It is wet and cold in Cape Town.
Kind regards from Ingrid and Helmut
